My Blogging Journey: From Library Hours to Raise Lives

It has been almost eight years since I began blogging.

What started as a way to pass time during library hours as a theological student has become one of the most meaningful ministries of my life.

The funny thing is, I never planned to become a blogger. In the beginning, I knew very little about blogging. I simply uploaded a few pictures and published them online. Soon, I felt the need to write something alongside those images—to share my thoughts, experiences, and reflections. That small decision became the beginning of an unexpected journey.

The Beginning

When I started my theological studies in Kolkata, everything around me was new—my college, the city, the people, and the experiences that shaped my understanding of ministry and life.

I wanted to document those experiences and share them with others. So, I created a free WordPress blog:

The very first article I published was titled "Seminarian's Life." I still remember the encouragement I received from friends and family. Their responses motivated me to keep writing, and for the first time, I realised that people were actually willing to read what I had to say.

It was both surprising and encouraging to be accepted as a blogger.

Blogging Changed Me

As I thought about my next article, I prayed that whatever I wrote would be helpful to others.

That led me to write "7 Tips for Spiritual Growth," an article about building a relationship with God. To my surprise, it became one of the most widely read posts on my blog. Readers began sharing their own experiences, which encouraged me to continue writing.

Over time, blogging did something unexpected—it changed me.

Writing motivated me to read more. Reading helped me think more deeply. Thinking deeply helped me write better. Blogging became a discipline that shaped my studies, ministry, and personal growth.

Every article became an opportunity not only to encourage others but also to learn and grow myself.

The Search for a Name

As the blog grew, I began considering purchasing a custom domain name.

I tried several times, but things simply didn't work out. Finding the right name was more difficult than I expected. I initially thought about using my own name, but something didn't feel right.

I wanted the name of the website to reflect its purpose rather than its author.

After asking for suggestions from friends and followers on social media and spending considerable time exploring different options, one name stood out:

Raise Lives

The name immediately resonated with the vision behind my blogging journey.

"Raise" means to lift up, encourage, strengthen, and help someone grow.

"Lives" reminds us that our calling extends beyond ourselves. It speaks of people—their stories, struggles, faith, and growth.

Together, the name reflects a simple yet meaningful mission:

To encourage, strengthen, and help others grow spiritually, socially, intellectually, and personally.

More Than a Blog

Raise Lives is more than a website.

It is a space where faith meets everyday life. Over the years, I have written on a variety of topics—from theology and spirituality to social issues, personal growth, ministry, and practical Christian living.

The vision has always remained the same: to create content that encourages people to think deeply, live faithfully, and serve compassionately.

Our tagline beautifully captures that vision:

"Encourage one another and build one another up."
— 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Looking Back with Gratitude

When I look back at my earliest blog posts, I often smile.

Some articles make me realise how much I have grown as a writer and as a person. Others remind me of the questions I was asking during my seminary days. A few of them are imperfect—but they tell an honest story of growth.

I have intentionally chosen to preserve many of those early writings because they remind me that growth is a journey.

Blogging has taught me that God often uses small beginnings. What began during quiet library hours eventually became something that continues to encourage and connect people from different places and backgrounds.

For that, I am deeply grateful.

The Journey Continues

Raise Lives continues to be a work in progress—just like its author.
