Meritorious May

Greetings in the name of God, who always works for our good and never rests or sleeps.

Today, we join people around the world in observing International Workers’ Day. This day remembers the Haymarket Affair, where workers gave their lives while fighting for fair working conditions and an eight-hour workday.
As believers, we don’t just celebrate workers we reflect on what God teaches us about work.

Psalm 128:2 says:
“You will eat from the work of your hands; you will be happy and prosperous.”

This reminds us that God blesses honest and faithful labor. It is not about luck or empty hope, but about the joy of working with sincerity and receiving the fruit of it.

God Works—and So Should We

From the beginning, God is shown as a worker. In creation, He formed the world with care and purpose. On the seventh day, He rested—not because He was tired, but to show us a healthy rhythm of work and rest.

Jesus also said in John 5:17,
“My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”

God is never idle. He is always at work in our lives.

Romans 8:28 reminds us:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.”

If God Himself is always working with purpose, then we too are called to reflect that in our lives.

Jesus Lived a Life of Purposeful Work

Jesus did not live a life of comfort and ease. He walked long distances, taught large crowds, healed the sick, and cared for those in need.
His life was full of action, service, and purpose.
He came not just to be present, but to fulfill the will of the Father. In the same way, we are called to work—not just to earn, but to serve, build, and make a difference.
Work with Integrity and Heart
The Bible encourages us to work sincerely and faithfully.

Proverbs 13:4 teaches:
“Those who work hard will prosper.”
Desire alone is not enough. Effort matters.

Proverbs 22:29 says:
“Those who are skilled in their work will stand before kings.”
Faithful and excellent work opens doors.

Colossians 3:23 reminds us:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

This changes our perspective. Our work is not just for people—it is for God. Even the simplest task becomes meaningful when done with the right heart.

Whether you are a student, teacher, farmer, businessperson, homemaker, or pastor—your work matters to God.

Dignity in Every Task

There is dignity in every kind of honest work. No task is too small in God’s eyes.
Whether it is cleaning, building, teaching, or leading—every act done with sincerity and love has value.

A New Month, A New Mindset
As we enter this new month—Meritorious May—let us remember that our work has purpose.

Let this month be a time to:
  • Work with purpose, not just for profit
  • Serve with joy, not just out of duty
  • Choose diligence, not laziness
  • Do everything as an offering to God
Let us honor God not only in our prayers and worship, but also in our daily work.

May our hands reflect our faith.

May our efforts bring glory to God.

And may our work become an act of worship.

With Love
