Can I Pray for You?

It looks like a simple question.

But sometimes, simple questions carry extraordinary power.

"Can I pray for you?"

Take a moment and think about the last time someone genuinely asked you that question. Chances are, it made you feel seen, valued, and cared for.

We often pray for ourselves—for our studies, jobs, ministries, families, and needs. There is nothing wrong with that. The Bible encourages us to bring our requests before God.

But what if we intentionally made room in our prayers for others?

Perhaps one of the most beautiful ways to love people is to pray for them.

Beyond Self-Centred Prayers

If we are honest, many of our prayers revolve around ourselves.

• My health.
• My career.
• My ministry.
• My future.
• My family.

Prayer can easily become a conversation with God that excludes everyone else.

What if we intentionally remembered the "third person" in our conversation with God?

What if we prayed more for others than for ourselves?

Whom Should We Pray For?

The answer is simple:

Everyone.

You can pray for:

• Your family.
• Your friends.
• Your teachers.
• Your colleagues.
• Your church leaders.
• Your social media friends.
• Those who are struggling.
• Those who dislike you.
• Those whom you find difficult to love.
• Those who have asked for your prayers.
• People you have never met.

Prayer has no geographical or relational boundaries.

Sometimes, the people who need our prayers the most are the people we least expect to pray for.

What Should We Pray For?

Your prayers do not have to be long or complicated.

Pray for:

• Their physical well-being.
• Their spiritual growth.
• Their families.
• Their struggles.
• Their decisions.
• Their peace and joy.
• Their relationship with God.

A sincere two-minute prayer offered with love can become a great blessing.

Make Prayer Intentional

If you would like to practise praying for others regularly, here are a few simple suggestions:

1. Prepare a list of people you want to pray for.
2. Set aside a specific time for prayer.
3. Pray faithfully and consistently.
4. Keep a record of prayer requests and answered prayers.

Prayer becomes meaningful when it becomes intentional.

Why Should We Pray for Others?

Because prayer changes more than circumstances—it changes us.

Praying for others teaches us:

• Compassion.
• Humility.
• Gratitude.
• Generosity.
• Love.

It slowly breaks the habit of living self-centred lives.

You may be surprised to discover that the person who changes the most through this practice is not the person you are praying for—but you.

Sometimes Prayer Is the Greatest Gift

There are moments in life when we feel helpless.

A friend loses a loved one.

Someone is struggling financially.

A student fails an examination.

A family goes through difficult times.

Often, we do not know what to say or what to do.

Prayer allows us to stand alongside people when words are insufficient.

Never underestimate the ministry of praying for someone.

Honour Prayer Requests

How often do we say:

"I will pray for you."

And then completely forget about it?

If someone trusts you enough to ask for your prayers, honour that request.

Whenever possible, pray immediately.

Sometimes I have found it helpful to stop what I am doing and simply say:

"Can we pray right now?"

Prayer is one of the greatest gifts we can offer another human being.

A Challenge for You

Today, I want to invite you to do something simple.

Ask someone:

"Can I pray for you?"

Listen to their response.

Pray sincerely for them.

You may discover that this simple question opens doors for encouragement, healing, friendship, and ministry.

Finally...

Prayer is not merely a Christian practice. It is an expression of love.

The world needs more people who are willing to carry others before God.

Let us become people who are known not only for speaking about prayer but for faithfully praying for others.

And before you finish reading this article, may I ask you one more thing?
