7 TIPS FOR SPRITUAL GROWTH
Is It Necessary to Grow Spiritually?
Have you ever asked yourself:
"Is spiritual growth really necessary?"
For some people, growing spiritually sounds boring. They imagine it means giving up all fun, enjoyment, and freedom in life.
Many people think that becoming spiritual means becoming serious all the time.
But my experience has taught me something completely different.
Growing spiritually has helped me discover the meaning of life, experience true joy, and learn how to live purposefully. Spiritual growth is not about losing happiness—it is about discovering a deeper and lasting happiness.
You don't have to become a perfect Christian overnight. Spiritual growth is a lifelong journey of becoming more like Christ.
Over the years, I have realised that certain spiritual disciplines can help us grow in our relationship with God. Here are seven simple practices that can make a significant difference in your spiritual life.
1. Set Aside Time for Prayer
Prayer is not a religious duty—it is a conversation with God.
Choose a time that works best for you.
Begin with a realistic and consistent routine.
Avoid comparing your prayer life with others.
Spend intentional time speaking and listening to God.
Consistency matters more than duration.
Even a few faithful minutes every day can transform your spiritual life.
2. Create Space for God
Having a quiet place for prayer and Bible reading can help you focus better.
You may consider:
Choosing a place with minimal distractions.
Planning your Bible reading.
Keeping a prayer journal or spiritual diary.
Writing down prayer requests and answered prayers.
Sometimes, creating a sacred space helps us become more intentional in our walk with God.
3. Commit Yourself to Corporate Worship
God never intended for us to grow spiritually in isolation.
Become actively involved in your local church.
Attend worship regularly.
Be punctual and attentive.
Participate in church activities.
Build meaningful relationships with fellow believers.
The Church is not merely a building—it is a community that helps us grow together.
4. Find a Spiritual Mentor
We all need people who can guide, encourage, and pray for us.
Look for someone who:
Is spiritually mature.
Genuinely cares about your growth.
Is willing to listen and encourage you.
Can offer wise and biblical guidance.
Ask questions. Learn from their experiences. Seek counsel when needed.
Remember, spiritual mentors are guides—not substitutes for God. Ultimately, our obedience belongs to Christ.
5. Grow in Fellowship
Spiritual growth flourishes in community.
Consider joining:
Prayer cells.
Bible study groups.
Youth fellowships.
Small groups.
Local Christian gatherings.
If you cannot find one, perhaps God may be calling you to begin one.
Christianity is meant to be lived together.
6. Serve in Ministry
Spiritual growth is incomplete if it remains self-centred.
Find ways to serve God and others.
Your ministry may include:
Teaching children.
Singing in the choir.
Church cleaning.
Sharing Scripture with others.
Supporting ministries financially.
Volunteering in your church or community.
Ministry is not reserved for pastors or missionaries. Every believer is called to serve.
Serve faithfully and joyfully.
7. Love People Practically
Spirituality should never remain inside the walls of a church.
True spiritual growth is visible in the way we love others.
You can:
Donate blood.
Plant trees.
Visit orphanages or elderly homes.
Help those in need.
Encourage someone who is struggling.
Support charitable causes.
Not all help needs to be financial. Sometimes your time, presence, and kindness can become the greatest gifts you offer.
A Few Things to Remember
Spiritual growth is a journey, not a competition.
You will have good days and difficult days.
You may fail at times—don't give up.
Avoid comparing your spiritual life with others.
Be aware of distractions and protect your priorities.
Keep growing one day at a time.
Most importantly, remember that spiritual disciplines are not the destination—they are simply tools that help us grow closer to God.
Growing spiritually is not about becoming more religious. It is about becoming more like Christ.
So, is it necessary to grow spiritually?
Absolutely.
Because spiritual growth ultimately shapes how we love God, love people, and live our lives.
Keep growing.
Keep seeking.
Keep trusting God.
And never stop becoming the person God created you to be.
"Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."
